Comrade Charles Kennedy receives his Quilt of Valor from the Coweta County Quilts of Valor.  He wrote a poem for them to describe his appreciation.

At the Post meeting this morning, we elected the following Post officers for the 2017-2018 year. Commander: John Skinner Sr Vice Commander: Doug Roberson Jr Vice Commander: Tom Fetchet Quartermaster: Bob Ward Chaplain: David Jessel 1-Year Trustee: Steve Parker 2-Year Trustee: Mike Hill 3-Year Trustee: Tim Ramirez Appointments for the Year: Judge Advocate: Warren Park Surgeon: Billy Alford Adjutant: Jeff Bouchard Service Officer: Hank Berkowitz Congratulations! Officers will be installed at the May 13th meeting (we'll have pictures) and will take office immediately following the State Convention on June 18th. 

Past Post 2667 Commander Jeff Carroll was elected VFW Department of Georgia Judge Advocate today in a special election of the State Council of Administration. This election was necessary as State Sr Vice Commander Richard Knight stepped down due to personal issues. Post Commander John Skinner was appointed by State Commander Bill Sandberg as the State Chief-of-Staff for the remainder of the year (replacing Carroll). Jeff will finish out this year as State Judge Advocate and is running for State Jr Vice Commander, when the elections are held the weekend of June 16rh.

Great day today. Participated in Newnan's Veterans Day parade this morning. Then we helped with the Veterans Day program at Veterans Memorial Park where we honored local all-around good guy GD Hendrix as the Veteran of the Year. Big thanks to Smokey Road Middle School Choir and Band.  From there it was back to the Coweta Veterans Club where we helped serve lunch to the community. More pictures can be found on the  Coweta Veterans Club Facebook Page  (it's public so you don't have to be on Facebook to see them) Tonight there will be a dance at 7:30 PM at the Club to celebrate Veterans Day.

Independence Day in Newnan, GA -we handed out American flags to lead the parade! Good times!

Wanted: Motivated, dedicated and passionate members to recruit just one new member each. VFW values all its members and their continued support to the nation’s largest war veteran’s organization. The question often asked is: why is membership so important? And who is responsible for recruiting and retaining our members? The answer is you. According to VA’s website, www.va.gov , the nation’s veteran’s population is more than 22 million. We can assume that about 45% are VFW-eligible, or about 10 million. We also can assume that these veterans are in your local communities, and we ask for you to reach out to them and ask them to join. The Membership Department is asking for your help by going out and recruiting one new member. This message was sent out in the November/December magazine and sent to 1.5 million members. Past VFW Post 2667 Commander and World War II veteran Jim Goodrum was recognized as Veteran of the Year in Veterans' Day ceremonies at Newnan's Veterans Memorial Plaza. Goodrum, who lives in the Sharpsburg area, attended the ceremonies with his wife Elsie and daughter Linda. "I am really overwhelmed by being chosen as Veteran of the Year. By honoring me, I feel like you're also honoring every man who served on the USS Bogue with me" and "every person who has put on a military uniform in the service of the United States of America," he said. The 2008 Newnan-Coweta Citizen of the Year is retired U.S. Air Force Brigadier General Robin G. Tornow, who also recently retired as director of the University of West Georgia's Newnan Center.
