GMExtendedWarranty.com Honors America's Military

The GM Extended Warranty division of Roberson Pontiac-Buick-GMC in Jesup, GA is once again extending its support for the VFW National Home for Children and our nation's military members and veterans during the month of May. May is National Military Appreciation Month. It's the perfect time to say "thank you" to the men and women serving our country. So ExtendedGMWarranty.com has joined forces with an ambitious high school student named Shauna Fleming. Shauna wanted to say "thanks" to the U.S. troops. But she didn't want hers to be the only voice they heard. She wanted the volume of hundreds of thousands of voices. Maybe even more. As founder of A Million Thanks, Shauna has led a year-round campaign to send a thank you letter to every single member of the military. Her goal was a million letters--and when her millionth letter was collected, the President invited her to the Oval Office to thank and congratulate her. Today, Shauna has collected over 2.6 mi...

Oregon Dedicates Memorial

The state of Oregon set a precedent on Veterans Day by dedicating a memorial to its casualties from Afghanistan and Iraq. Though billed as the first of a kind, Arkansas actually dedicated a memorial to its National Guard troops killed in these wars on Sept. 10, 2005. Oregon's memorial includes all residents with ties to the state. The memorial efforts, under way for two years, was conceived and launched primarily by one family - Clay and M.J. Kesterson. Their son Erik was killed in Iraq. The family raised more than $100,000 in cash and garnered $400,00 in in-kind support. the state pitched in $181,000. Located on the grounds of the Oregon VA Department on the Capital Mall in Salem, the Afghan-Iraqi Freedom Memorial features a large fountain and an 8-foot bronze statue of a kneeling soldier with an outstretched hand. Students Study with Veterans

The day after the 65th anniversary of the bombing of Pearl Harbor, Newnan High School students were given what is rapidly becoming a rare opportunity. Instead of hunching over history books at their desks and viewing run-of-the-mill textbook photos commemorating the event, the students were able to study Pearl Harbor survivor Dixie Harris' personal photographs, as well as newspaper clippings from 1941. Harris, Georgia State Chairman of the Pearl Harbor Survivors Association, Inc., was one of many veterans spanning historic eras from World War II and Korea to Vietnam and Operation Iraqi Freedom who visited the school. No Auxiliary This Time

Well, we had our meeting to try and re-establish a Ladies Auxiliary. After contacting the entire post membership and notifying them of the meeting, we had exactly two women show up. Unfortunately they are both already life members and don't count towards the 20 NEW members needed to re-establish. We won't be having a Ladies Auxiliary at this time.

Post 2667 Trying to Start an Auxiliary

During the Post's monthly meeting, Post 2667 voted to re-establish a Ladies Auxiliary. The next step is for the Ladies to come up with at least 20 new or former members (transfers do not count). There will be a kick-off meeting in conjunction with our next monthly meeting on Thursday, September 14th @ 7:30p at the Coweta Veterans Club. Eligibility is open to wives, widows, mothers, foster & stepmothers (who performed the duties of parent), grandmothers, daughters, granddaughters, foster & stepdaughters (who attained that status prior to the age of 16 and for whom the duties of parent were performed), sisters, half sisters, foster & stepsisters (who attained that status prior to the age of 16) of persons who were or are eligible for the VFW. Newnan's community Memorial Day ceremonies were held on May 29 at the city park at Jackson Street and Temple Avenue, again honoring a local son who served his country. The gathering started at 11:00a in front of the Veteran's Monument. The annual observance is sponsored by Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 2667. For the 12th year, the program was entitled "Honor All by Remembering One." Dick Stender, who has helped organize the programs during the 12 years, said the idea is to remind Cowetans how much the loss of one person, killed in action, affects a family, friends and community. "The sense of loss, when seen and heard in person, sheds light on the huge sacrifice of the million-plus Americans who died in defense of this nation," Stender said. Post Commander Jeff Carroll announced this year's honoree is Corporal Terry C. Allen Jr. Allen was killed in Vietnam on June 23, 1968, while serving with the Americal Division in one of the many desperate battles aro...

Four Boys from Happy Hollow

Grantville, Georgia - Each year, for almost 50 years, VFW Post 2667 has sponsored Memorial Day ceremonies for Newnan and Coweta County. We feel great pride as we help the community remember those brave souls who died while in service of our great country. Our theme, "Honoring All by Remembering One," focuses on the lives of a few in order to bring the sacrifices of the many into better perspective. Think of the millions of families across our America who have given loved ones in the defense of freedom and justice. Treasure in your heart what you feel today so that you will always remember and honor those who have died in your place. We, the Veterans who served, thank you for joining us in honoring our fallen comrades.
