Clinic for Female Veterans Held on July 27
A clinic designed for women who are military veterans was hosted on July 27 at the Veterans Club, 130 Veterans Club Drive off U.S. Highway 29 just north of the bypass in Newnan. The event was a result of the combined efforts of American Legion Post 57, VFW Post 2667, Marine Corps League Detachment 1325 and Disabled American Veterans Chapter 31 in LaGrange. Female veterans from all surrounding counties attended. The meeting was specifically oriented to female veterans who want to apply for VA medical benefits or are seeking information regarding filing claims for service connected or non-service connected benefits. Dottie Pridmore was the featured speaker and assisted veterans in filing for veterans administration medical benefits by completing the VA form 10-10EZ. VA Assistance Team Visit
VFW Post 2667, American Legion Post 57, and Marine Corps League Detachment 1325 co-sponsored a VA Healthcare Sign-Up event at the Coweta Veterans Club in Newnan on October 20th at 7:00 PM. It was open to all veterans. They just needed to bring their DD-214 or discharge papers and any private health plan information they had. More than 50 veterans showed up and were helped. Special thanks to the American Legion Ladies Auxiliary for their support in feeding these veterans and all their help in making the event a success. In light of the number of veterans who need to register for VA benefits. The organizations are planning to host similar events in the future, including a special event for women veterans.
VA Continues Notification Process for Veterans Affected by Reprocessing Issues
WASHINGTON – The Department of Veterans Affairs (VA) has announced 3,174 Veterans have already been notified of the results of testing they underwent recently, that testing was conducted because of improperly reprocessed endoscopy equipment that may have been used in their care. These Veterans, in the Tennessee, Georgia and South Florida areas were among 10,555 Veterans sent letters offering free testing. VA patients, who believe that they may have been exposed to cross contamination, were patients that received endoscopic procedures at the VA’s Murfreesboro, TN, facility from April 2003 to December 2008 and the VA’s Augusta, GA, hospital from January 2008 to November 2008 and the VA’s Miami hospital from May 2004 to March 2009. As of April 1, 2009, 17 veterans have tested positive for Hepatitis B, Hepatitis C, or the Human Immunodeficiency (HIV) Virus.
